CURTIS B. VICKERY ROUND TABLE OF MILITARY HISTORY

We have some great programs lined up this fall and winter for the Round Table.

Featuring:

  • MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE
  • ROUND TABLE SPEAKER SCHEDULE
  • ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER

MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE

In honor of the 237th birthday of the 5th Maryland Regiment (175th Infantry), we will hold an Open House at the Fifth Regiment Armory. The event, which is free to all members of the Maryland Military Historical Society, will feature guided tours of the newly renovated Maryland Museum of Military History, showings of some of our rare archival films of D-Day and the 29th Division, and the chance to meet and chat with fellow members of the Society. Several serving members of the 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry, will be present and we have heard that there will be a small ceremony on the drill floor in early afternoon. The usual regimental review, however, will not take place because most of the unit’s members are currently serving in the Sinai as UN peacekeepers.

  • Date: Saturday, December 3, 2011
  • Time: 1130 Hours
  • Place: Fifth Regiment Armory, 29th Division St., Baltimore MD 21201

A light buffet lunch and beverages will be provided for attendees at 12 Noon. We ask that if you wish to attend, please respond by MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2011 at the latest. We will only order sufficient food for those who have provided an RSVP by that date.

ROUND TABLE SPEAKER SCHEDULE

  • Thursday, November 17, 2011: Bob Mullauer will speak on the life of Napoleon. Pikesville “O” Club, 7:30 PM.
  • Thursday, December 15, 2011: LTC Drew Sullins will speak on Sgt. Joe Farinholt, the 29th Division’s most decorated soldier. Fifth Regiment Armory, 6:30 PM. This is also our annual Christmas dinner (see below).
  • Thursday, January 19, 2012: Steve Rusiecki of the US Army Inspector General School will speak on his new book, “In Final Defense of the Reich: The Destruction of the 6th SS Mountain Division.” Fifth Regiment Armory, 7:30 PM.
  • Thursday, February 16, 2012: David Isby will speak on World War II aircraft (subject to be determined). The location of this talk has not yet been determined. Stay tuned.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER

On Thursday, December 15, 2011, we will gather in the Fifth Regiment Armory’s Reckord Lounge at 6:30 PM for our annual Christmas dinner. All members of the Maryland Military Historical Society are invited, and the cost is $10 per person. Our own Adrianne Hills will provide the cooking, and as we know from the past, a treat is in store for all. Afterward, LTC Drew Sullins will speak to us on the life of Sgt. Joe Farinholt of the 29th Division. If you wish to attend the dinner, please respond no later than THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2011. The $10 cost may be paid at the door, although we will only order sufficient food to cover those who have responded.

We look forward to seeing you at any or all of the above events!
